Willson Contreras is a baseball magnet as he seemingly can’t stop getting hit by pitches this season.
For the fifth time in just 11 games, Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras got hit by a pitch.
Let that sink in.
In almost half of the games Contreras has made a plate appearance, he’s been beaned. Unlike the other times, however, the Milwaukee Brewers were not the culprits.
Chicago opened a home series against the Atlanta Braves on Friday, and it took just four six pitches before Contreras was hit by starter Kyle Wright.

How many times has Willson Contreras been hit by a pitch?
If it seems like you’ve heard a lot about Contreras getting hit by pitches lately, it’s because he has. Beyond this season, Contreras has been a magnet for pitches, specifically when he plays the Brewers. In 72 career games against Milwaukee, the Cubs catcher has been hit 12 times, and just this season he was hit in back-to-back nights.
This isn’t even the first time this week Contreras has been hit by a pitch, as he was beaned on Tuesday by Brandon Woodruff. That incident led to the Cubs pitching behind Woodruff during his next plate appearance and resulted in MLB suspending pitcher Ryan Tepera three games and manager David Ross one (which would be Friday’s game in which Contreras was hit again).
Nothing about this specific incident feels nefarious on the part of the Braves. If anything, it ties back into the ongoing feud between the Cubs and Brewers as it gives fans in Milwaukee a reason to claim that Contreras getting hit so many times by their pitchers is merely a circumstantial.
Of course, when it comes to the Brewers both Contreras and the Cubs feel differently.
