Pittsburgh Penguins center Mark Jankowski holds the distinction of scoring the first goal of the 2021 NHL season.
Nearly four months following the Tampa Bay Lightning hoisted the Stanley Cup, the 2021 NHL season has arrived. Sure, the start of the campaign did get overshadowed by the big James Harden trade news in the NBA, but hockey’s back! And we now have the first goal of the season, coming out of Pennsylvania.
In the first period of Wednesday’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers, center Mark Jankowski scored after getting hit with a pass by Jared McCann in front of the Flyers goal.

Penguins on the board first
This is quite the welcome for Jankowski, who signed a one-year, $700,000 contract after spending the past three full seasons with the Calgary Flames. And what a way to make a first impression with the Penguins!
So there you have it, Jankowski will be the name to remember for first official goal of the 2021 season in case you participate in bar room sports trivia in the near future.
