Even Kansas City Chiefs star Tyrann Mathieu had to question Georgia and Kirby Smart for letting Justin Fields walk away.
All the Georgia Bulldogs fans can do right now is think what could have been for the program had Justin Fields never left Athens. A 5-star quarterback, Fields signed with the Bulldogs as part of the 2018 class and ended up appearing in 12 games as a true freshman.
However, he announced in early January of 2019 that he’d be transferring, as he didn’t want to sit behind Jake Fromm as the starter and wanted to pursue immediate QB1 playing time. He got just that with his transfer to Ohio State.
Now, Fields, after putting on a show against Clemson earlier this week, has the Buckeyes in the national title game against Alabama. Countless people can’t believe Georgia let Fields get away, with Kansas City Chiefs star Tyrann Mathieu also on the list.
WTH was Georgia thinking letting him walk….

Tyrann Mathieu can’t believe Georgia let Justin Fields transfer
The decision for Kirby Smart and Georgia to stick with Fromm over Fields as the starter proved to be a nightmare one, as Fromm left school early after the 2019 campaign to enter the NFL Draft. Fields would have had three more years of starting time with the Bulldogs had he been given the job.
Instead, he chose to leave Georgia and has now solidified himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the college ranks. We all saw that against Clemson, as Fields tossed for 385 yards and six touchdowns in the 49-28 win.
That performance surely had to hurt for Georgia fans to see, especially after they basically played musical chairs at the quarterback position in 2020. Unfortunately for Smart, this may be a decision he’ll end up regretting for a long time.
