Get to know one of The Ultimate Fighter 29 middleweight contestants, Gilbert Urbina, ahead of the show’s first episode on June 1.
Gilbert Urbina is one of eight middleweights that will compete as part of The Ultimate Fighter season 29 cast. Urbina enters the show at 6-1, having primarily competed at welterweight throughout his career thus far.
Urbina currently fights out of Weslaco, TX, and most recently defeated Angelo Trevino in his one and only appearance for Combate Americas in November 2019.
In seven appearances, Urbina has showcased a wide array of skills. Victories include Jared Perez, Roldan Abundis, and Noel Ligon, to name a few. Urbina currently has two submission victories, along with one KO/TKO, to make up for five of his six victories.
Urbina failed to compete in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the show will mark his first outing since 2019.
The Ultimate Fighter returns for its 29th season
TUF 29 is back in full force this summer and will look to crown two winners in the middleweight and bantamweight weight classes, respectively. The show has produced former and current UFC champions like Kamaru Usman and Forrest Griffin, as it looks to identify the next generation of UFC superstars for years to come.
Only time will tell if Urbina can duplicate the same success that those champions and many others have had throughout the years, along with taking full advantage of the opportunity in front of them. Urbina will be the third Urbina brother to compete in TUF.
The Ultimate Fighter will begin airing on June 1 and can be watched on ESPN+. Please follow along with FanSided MMA for all your live news and highlights.
