The Houston Texans reportedly completely ignored the recommendations of their search firm and decided to hire Nick Caserio instead.
If you thought Deshaun Watson was furious before, wait until you find out what Houston Texans owner Cal McNair decided to do earlier this week. Then you might understand why Watson is said to be nothing short of livid with the team.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Houston’s search firm Korn Ferry had zeroed in on two targets for the Texans and its potential new general manager: Pittsburgh Steelers vice president of football and business administration Omar Khan, plus ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Louis Riddick. So, what happened?
The latest report in the Texans GM search is sure to infuriate fans
In Schefter’s report, he states that team owner Cal McNair basically ignored the recommendations from the search firm he hired and went off on his own to make the surprising decision to hire Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio.
On top of that, Schefter’s sources have told him that McNair basically going rogue and making this decision all on his own has absolutely infuriated Watson, who was told he’d have a voice in who the Texans bring in as GM and head coach. As you can tell by now, that hasn’t been the case.
This past campaign was a nightmare for the Texans, who ended up finishing the season with a 4-12 mark. Watson gave his all each week and led the NFL with his 4,823 passing yards. There’s no denying Watson is one of the most electrifying signal-callers in the game, but rumors have swirled he may ask the the Texans for a trade this offseason.
Plain and simple, the franchise quarterback is not happy with his front office. McNair’s decision in hiring Caserio surely made things worse.
