If Tennessee football fires Jeremy Pruitt, one coach who wants the job is former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher who is campaigning for the gig.
Jeff Fisher spent 22 years as an NFL head coach and another 15 as an assistant coach in the NFL but could get his first college coaching experience if the Tennessee football job opens up.
The former head coach of the Tennessee Titans could be coming back to the state if the Vols job comes open and the university fires Jeremy Pruitt, which could be coming sooner than later.
Tennessee has imposed a hiring freeze as they investigate recruiting violations under Pruitt’s watch. Should the results of the investigation be so damaging that Pruitt has to go, and his on-field results, have been lacking as well, the Vols could once again be faced with a coaching search.
Fisher wants it known that if there is an opening for the Tennessee football job he’s interested.

Speaking on The George Plaster Show in Nashville, Fisher said, “If for some reason coach Pruitt is no longer the head coach at the University of Tennessee, yes I would have a great deal of interest in that program.”
Adds that he has respect for the position and respect for Jeremy Pruitt, but if the job were to come open he would have substantial interest.

Fisher has a career record of 178–171–1 and led the Titans to a Super Bowl berth in the 1999 season when the Titans came one yard shy of beating the Rams. His teams made six playoff appearances.
Despite not having any college experience, Fisher would bring some professionalism and a world of NFL experience with him to the Vols. He’d need to assemble a great staff with college experience to handle the recruiting element of the job which he’s never done before. But Fisher is a personable guy who could end up being a natural at it.
Pruitt is 16-19 at Tennessee and if he’s not fired this offseason, could be on the hottest of all hot seats next year. If Tennessee football doesn’t win eight or nine games next year, Pruitt could be out and Fisher could be in. Although, there will be several candidates athletic director Philip Fulmer would consider for the job.
