The Los Angeles Rams’ initial starting quarterback was taken to the hospital following a hit to the head.
Just hours before kickoff against the Seattle Seahawks, the Los Angeles Rams announced that Jared Goff would be active, but as the backup to John Wolford. Goff suffered a broken thumb back in Week 16 against the Seahawks, and wasn’t exactly 100-percent, but plans changed due to unfortunate circumstances.
In the first quarter, Wolford scrambled and slid to the turf. But as Wolford was sliding, Seahawks safety Jamal Adams lowered his shoulder and hit him straight on the top of the head. Wolford would walk off the field with the assistance of medical staff and proceeded to the locker room. As a result, Goff entered the game under these circumstances.
Unfortunately, Wolford left Lumen Field in an ambulance and was transported to a local hospital due to a neck injury. The Rams announced that Wolford’s trip to the hospital was for precautionary reasons.

Wolford was making first career playoff start
As mentioned above, Wolford entered the fray once Goff suffered the injury to his throwing hand. Wolford, the former quarterback for the Alliance of American Football’s Arizona Hotshots, had never played a single game in the NFL. That all changed in Week 17, as Wolford was named the starter for the Rams’ Week 17 game against the Arizona Cardinals, where a win would clinch a playoff berth.
In his first official start, Wolford completed 22-of-38 pass attempts for 231 yards and one interception, while rushing for 56 yards on six carries in Los Angeles’ 18-7 win over Arizona. That helped the Rams clinch their first playoff berth since 2018.
Wolford only managed to complete three-of-six passes for 29 yards against the Seahawks prior to his early exit.
We will continue to keep you updated on Wolford’s status once more details are revealed after the game.
