Paddington 3 is coming!
A new sequel in the movie series is in active development, representatives from Studiocanal told Variety on Wednesday (February 17).
“We can confirm Studiocanal is working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craft and care — as with film 1 and 2,” the rep said in a statement.
There are no plot details yet for the upcoming movie. Studiocanal said it will again be teaming up with David Heyman’s Heyday Films. Paddington writer-director Paul King also previously said he will not direct the third film, but will still be involved.
The previous two movies grossed more than $280 million and $225 million worldwide, respectively. Nicole Kidman starred as villainous taxidermist Millicent Clyde in the first, while Hugh Grant played Phoenix Buchanan, an egotistical actor and thief in the second film.
Paddington author Michael Bond, who died in 2017, said he was inspired by the stories of refugees during World War II who arrived in London with labels around their necks. (Paddington’s says: “Please look after this bear.”)
Ben Whishaw is the voice of Paddington in the movies, and has reprised the role on the television show The Adventures of Paddington. Season 2 of the show, which airs on Nickelodeon in the U.S., arrives on Friday (February 19).
