Nolan Arenado hit his first home run at Busch Stadium in the St. Louis Cardinals’ home opener on Thursday.
The St. Louis Cardinals started off their season with six road games before finally being able to play at Busch Stadium for their home opener. This was also the first opportunity for Cardinals fans to see superstar third baseman Nolan Arenado in-person after the team acquired him in an offseason trade with the Colorado Rockies. Those Cardinals fans in attendance on Thursday were given quite the treat.
In the bottom of the eighth inning against the rival Milwaukee Brewers, Arenado hit a two-run home run off reliever Drew Rasmussen to break a 1-1 tie that ultimately proved to be the game-winning hit. This was Arenado’s first home run at Busch Stadium while wearing a Cardinals uniform.
Cardinals: Nolan Arenado hits game-winning home run vs. Brewers on Thursday
While this was his first homer at home with the Cardinals, it is officially his second of the season. His first came this past Saturday in St. Louis’ 9-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
Speaking of the Reds, Arenado endeared himself to his new fanbase by running after and yelling at outfielder Nick Castellanos. The Reds outfielder caught the ire of Cardinals fans after he taunted pitcher Jake Woodford after beating a tag at home plate during that Saturday contest.
Arenado continues to make the Cardinals faithful happy early on this season, as they hope his presence will result in the team reaching the World Series for the first time since 2013.
