After a tumultuous free agency period, the Raiders could save face by signing a future Hall of Famer.
Jon Gruden and the Raiders had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad offseason.
Las Vegas jettisoned most of its offensive line, spent the bunch of money on a position it already had filled, and generally didn’t do much to move the needle in an increasingly competitive AFC West.
But there’s still time to save face.
NFL insider and Raiders beat writer Vic Tafur recently went on record about the ongoing Richard Sherman rumors, and it’s much needed music to the ears of fans.
“You do hear [talk about] Richard Sherman,” said Vic Tafur of The Athletic on the State Of The Nation podcast. “I still think that is still a possibility. I think he is kind of going at his own speed. I think there was a tweet that he’s in Vegas right now, at a casino, at a pool party, so he’s nearby. I think they’ve talked to him… so [that] definitely could be a match. I think he could definitely play right away so that’s the one guy that may happen before long.”
NFL Rumors: Should Richard Sherman sign with Las Vegas Raiders?
While the Raiders already have plenty of players in the secondary, it is not like the Raiders defense has been the least bit good for the last several seasons. Sherman knows exactly what will be coming in Bradley’s Cover 3 base. Even entering his age-33 season, Sherman can be a savvy veteran to help bring along younger players such as Damon Arnette and Trayvon Mullen in 2021.
This is a big year for the Raiders. In the last two seasons under head coach Jon Gruden, the Raiders have at times looked like a playoff team, but have faded horribly down the stretch. The offense is multi-faceted and can put up points with just about anyone. However, defensive issues across the board will have them likely duking it out for third place in the AFC West with the Denver Broncos.
Adding Sherman in free agency could be a move that helps rectify the Raiders’ secondary issues.
