Indeed, social media was alive and kicking after Arizona’s Aari McDonald fired up a desperation shot as time expired and it nearly found the bottom of the cotton. Instead, the shot rimmed out and Stanford’s bench erupted in celebration moments later.
In the victory, Stanford superstar Haley Jones led the team with her 17 points, while Cameron Brink and Lacie Hull each chipped in with 10 points each. The Cardinal wrapped up an incredible season in which they finished the year at 31-2. Meanwhile for Arizona, they went on a terrific run, stunning countless folks throughout the NCAA Tournament. This included the stunning Final Four win over UConn on Friday.
They were hoping to keep things going with yet another upset of Stanford, but they fell one shot short of that goal. Meanwhile for the Cardinal, this latest championship only adds to the countless titles the university has been able to take home back to Palo Alto over the years. Stanford athletics is among the best in the nation, no doubt about that.
