The Steelers are falling apart, and one of Mike Tomlin’s masterful press conference quotes sort of called it two weeks ago.
Remember when the Pittsburgh Steelers were going to finish the season undefeated?
Three weeks after talk of a 16-0 season reached a fever pitch, the Steelers are losers of three straight games and ran into a buzzsaw on Sunday against the Colts. Now fans are searching for answers as the playoffs approach but big questions litter the entire locker room.
Mike Tomlin and his masterful press conference quotes were highlighted on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, as current and former players went over their appreciation of his bluntness and how he’s not afraid to be frank in his assessment of the team.
But one of his recent gems is now painfully relevant after the Steelers failed to score from the Colts goal line after four straight tries. Two weeks ago Tomlin was explaining why the Steelers had lost to Washington and the Bills, and he specifically singled out his suddenly stale offense.

After failing to score from the 1-yard line four times, that quote hits differently.
Pittsburgh is one of the most well-run franchises in the NFL, and Tomlin is the chief reason for that. There’s a reason the Steelers have only had three head coaches throughout the team’s entire history and there’s a reason Tomlin has been in charge for going on 15 years.
Never count Pittsburgh out, and never ever count on Tomlin to be anything other than brutally honest about struggles when they pop-up. What you can count on is Tomlin to usually be on the right side of whatever take he has, even if it ends up perfectly explaining why his team has fallen off a cliff.
