Ed Orgeron wasted no time in hiring a Joe Brady disciple to coordinate his LSU offense.
Joe Brady did remarkable things as Ed Orgeron’s passing game coordinator on the 2019 LSU football team, so it is only natural Coach O would hire a Brady disciple in Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Jake Peetz this offseason cycle.
Peetz will replace Steve Ensminger, who will go back into an analyst role, as well as 2020 passing game coordinator Scott Linehan on the LSU Tigers’ offensive staff. Prior to Brady arriving in Charlotte to be Matt Rhule’s offensive coordinator, Peetz was the Panthers’ running backs coach in 2019. That was easily Christian McCaffrey’s best season as a professional football player.
“We are excited about the opportunity that Coach O has given us to move our family to Baton Rouge and be a part of the LSU football program,” said Peetz. “Dealing with Coach O and Scott Woodward through this process has shown me the commitment made to winning more national championships and I am grateful to be a part of that. We can’t wait to get to work, Geaux Tigers!”

Can Jake Peetz, DJ Mangas transform the LSU passing game?
As Peetz makes his way from Charlotte to Baton Rouge, he will work closely alongside former LSU offensive analyst DJ Mangas, who will be serving as the Bayou Bengals’ third passing game coordinator in as many seasons. Though LSU may never have another season as magical as the 2019 campaign, you cannot blame Orgeron for going back to the Brady coaching pool this time.
Orgeron will always recruit at a high level, as well as coach defensive linemen. However, for him to have a great deal of staying power at LSU, he must embrace the CEO-type of role with the football program. In short, he must hire the right coaches around him and trust that they will do a great job in their respective roles on his behalf. Look for Peetz and Mangas to do their very best.
With Brady long gone, Orgeron hiring Peetz is perhaps the best way to recreate the 2019 magic.
