In his first at-bat back with the Houston Astros, Jason Castro belted a two-run homer against the Oakland Athletics.
Talk about a dream return for Houston Astros catcher Jason Castro. After spending the first six years of his career with Houston, Castro left the team after the 2016 campaign and enjoyed stints with the Twins, Angels and Padres.
This offseason, Houston and Castro came to terms on a two-year deal to bring him back to the club. On Sunday, the veteran backstop made his 2021 debut with the team and had a memorable first at-bat. How so? Take a look for yourself.

Jason Castro belted a two-run homer in his first at-bat for the Astros of the season
With the score tied at 1-1, Castro took a pitch from Sean Manaea for a ride, sending it over the left field wall. Just like that, Houston jumped on top 3-1 thanks to the timely hit from Castro. To start the campaign, the Astros have been red hot, jumping out and winning the first three games of their series with Oakland.
On Sunday, Houston is looking for a clean four-game sweep to start off the new campaign and things are looking good here. Meanwhile for the Athletics, talk about a terrible start to the season for them.
The same can’t be said for Houston or Castro thus far, as he couldn’t be happier to be back with the AL West powerhouse. When he returned to the club, fans were fired up to find out the news. Now they’re even happier for him knowing he’s still got a big bat and can step up in big situations for the team. Look for Castro to keep doing that the rest of this spring, summer and fall.
