Warner Bros. has dropped the first seven minutes of Mortal Kombat.
In the gory opening sequence to the movie, fans can see what actually happened to Scorpion.
The visual lets fans watch as Hanzo Hasashi, who was a warrior of the Shirai Ryu ninja clan in 17th-century Japan, after the murder of his wife and son, is also killed himself, by a rival clan of Chinese assassins called the Lin Kuei.
In the new clip, Hanzo is seen with his signature weapon, the kunai blade attached to a length of rope.
Mortal Kombat centers on MMA fighter Cole Young, who, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage – or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down.
Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with.
Mortal Kombat will be released on Friday, April 23, in theaters and HBO Max.
