Kevin Holland is the 2020 Fighter of the Year.
Oh, what a year it was! Choosing our 2020 Fighter of the Year award this year was difficult. There were quite a few men and women who drew our attention but ultimately it came down to no one better than Kevin Holland.
Before you scream and yell, we honored Deiveson Figueiredo as Most Dominant Champion of the year, which you can read about here.
We leaned toward Holland for a variety of reasons. He went undefeated in 2020 in all five of his bouts. That’s an insane number of fights in a calendar year, especially when you factor in the multi-month shutdown die to COVID-19. It’s even more impressive when you realize that those five wins came in a span of just seven months. That’s pretty darn impressive.
Here’s a breakdown of each of Kevin Holland’s five 2020 fights:
- May 16 – Anthony Hernandez (39 second TKO)Aug. 8 – Joaquin Buckley (third-round KO)Sept. 19 – Darren Stewart (split-decision)Oct. 31 – Charlie Ontiveros (first-round submission)Dec. 12 Ronaldo Souza (first-round KO)
Of his five bouts, four were by finish, three in the very first round. But perhaps his biggest win of 2020 (and his career) came on Dec. 12 when he defeated an MMA legend, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza by perhaps one of the best KO’s of the year.
Throughout it all Holland keep his spirits up, calling out fighters left and right and staying ready to step in on short notice at any moment.
Watch for Holland in 2021 as he Derek Brunson in March … unless he grabs a fight before then!
