No higher power can help you against Ronald Acuña. He’s just that good.
Acuña is off to an elite start to the regular season, even for him. Entering Friday’s game, Acuña was sporting an fWAR of 1.7. The rest of the Braves hitters combined had a -.2 fWAR. Acuña is carrying the Braves so far at an unsustainable pace, as in Atlanta’s finest need to catch up to him or risk losing ground in a crowded NL East.
On Friday, however, Acuña’s presence — along with a little help from his friends — was enough to power the Braves past the Cubs. One Chicago hurler must’ve been reading up on Acuña’s hot start to the season, or perhaps watched the show from the Cubs’ dugout, because he called upon a higher power to help him face the best hitter in the game right now.

Not even God can handle Ronald Acuña right now, he’s that good
Truth be told, plenty of pitchers say a prayer on the mound before their first pitch, it’s not unusual. Yet, witnessing the act before Acuña was at the dish is comical, because the pitcher ought to be looking at his catcher for the intentional walk sign, I don’t care who is hitting behind the 24-year-old.
As great as Freddie Freeman is, Acuña is on a Barry Bonds-level streak the last few games. Let him cool off, and take your chances with the 2020 NL MVP. For the Braves, it’s a great problem to have.
