St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Matt Carpenter has had a year to forget, and the fans are really sick of his poor performances at the dish.
What in the actual heck is going on with Matt Carpenter? The St. Louis Cardinals second baseman is typically so reliable at the plate, but that surely hasn’t been the case this season. Matter of fact, Carpenter is in the middle of the worst slumps of his career.
So far in 2021, the veteran is hitting a mind-blowing .069, with one home run and three RBI. Those are not the numbers we’re used to seeing from him. He’s only got two hits in 26 at-bats this year? As you might be able to imagine, St. Louis fans are losing patience, especially after he went 0-for-3 in a loss to the Phillies on Sunday.
St. Louis fans are sick of Matt Carpenter’s early-season struggles
Since his HR on April 13th, Matt Carpenter has 11 AB with 6 strikeouts and a .000 batting average.
Before the HR on April 13th, Matt Carpenter had 14 AB with 5 strikeouts and a .071 batting average.

I literally cannot for the life of me understand WHY Matt Carpenter continues to hit fifth. There is nothing that supports putting him in the lineup, let alone FIFTH. I don’t care about “well he hits the ball hard.” If he’s not on base then who cares? #STLCards

Matt Carpenter has 4 freaking hits since February but by all means, please continue to talk exit velocity and "bad luck".

“I’m still in shock with what I’m watching with Matt Carpenter with his average.” – Jim Edmonds on @BallySportsMW broadcast. Carpenter then struck out and is at .074.

I was totally ok with Matt Carpenter being an expensive bench bat but now I’m tired of this charade and he needs to be put out to pasture…getting way too many at bats in important line up slots

As you can see from the tweets above, Carpenter is not a popular man in St. Louis these days. Some fans are even going as far as to suggest that he needs to be released immediately. It’s not tough to understand why folks are so frustrated. Time and time again Carpenter hasn’t delivered for this team in ’21.
While it’s still early on in the campaign, Carpenter needs to wake up at the plate and fast. St. Louis as a whole needs to step its game up, as the team is 7-8 on the year. With the Cardinals entering the new campaign with World Series hopes, the team simply hasn’t lived up to expectations through the first 15 games.
In order for that to change, guys in the dugout will need to do some soul searching and start hitting the ball. The list of course includes Carpenter.
