According to Gianna, several of her castmates came over and physically pulled her from the bed during the incident. She told the outlet that producers did not remove the cast member, but allowed him to stay in the house and sleep on the couch.
Both Gianna and the man were prohibited from drinking alcohol for the remainder of the production.
Gianna shared that she felt “disrespected” after filming wrapped and added, “[I] really thought about it and was like, ‘Wow, that was really f—ed up,’ ” she said. “They should have never left me in an unsafe position. I’m definitely a changed person after it all.”
She also claimed that no one from production reached out to her after filming had wrapped to discuss the incident.
In the wake of Gianna‘s allegations, MTV has removed her season from streaming platforms.
A spokesperson for the network told The Daily Beast that they “take these issues very seriously and have paused production/casting to conduct an independent investigation into the allegations, the third party production company and further review our internal safety protocols.”
Lighthearted Entertainment, the production company behind Are You the One, also released a statement and said they will “cooperate with full transparency” with the investigation.
“We are confident that any review will confirm the safety procotols [sic] that we have long had in place on the sets of Are You The One?” they added. “We deny the allegations made by the former contestant. Throughout the eight seasons of the show, no contestant has reported an incident of sexual assault to Lighthearted.”
Another former television star at MTV has come forward with allegations of racism behind the scenes at the network.
