Alexander Volkanovski talks about the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter coaching against Brian Ortega.
The newest season of The Ultimate Fighter is confirmed for later this year and the coaches are set as well. Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will be pitted up against Brian Ortega as the looking to prepare an all-new roster of fighters to compete for a spot on the UFC roster. Along the way, Volkanovski is looking to have some fun with his team and the other coaches in the lead-up to his own fight. Volkanovski spoke to the media about the new season and what he expects.
“I can’t get in there and compete straight away so, what better way to kill time,” Volkanovski said of the opportunity to coach on TUF. “If I got told I was fighting later in the year and was doing nothing in between I would go crazy. At least now I can get into a good routine and have a bit of fun on this show and see how it all plays out. We can build up the fight that we are going to have through the show and obviously share some knowledge, train with the boys, have a bit of fun, good banter. See if we can stir the pot, I’m looking forward to it. It will be a good opportunity for everyone.”
The best part about these TUF seasons besides the new talent is seeing how the coaches interact with each other. Volkanovski is looking forward to having a good time in the TUF house and making the most of his time with Ortega.
“There’s a lot that comes out of this, Volkanovski said. “We have more time to get a strategy and work on work on drills. but not just that, we are going to have a show, he sees how we train these guys, I want to see his reaction, I might play a little prank. If he gets all hot-headed over nothing then maybe, all right, I might get in his head. We will learn a lot through the house. I’m sure he is competitive. I know I’m competitive. I do what I got to do to win. Let’s see if I can break him.”
It has been a long time coming for this new season of TUF. There were several different coaching options rumored but the featherweight title fighters are a great fit. There is bound to be fun and action with the list of middleweights and bantamweight looking to secure a contract.
The Ultimate Fighter will begin airing on June 1 and can be watched on ESPN+. Please follow along with FanSided MMA for all your live news and highlights.
