Aaron Rodgers seems set to win the NFL MVP award after the All-Pro teams were announced Friday.
The AP announced its 2020 NFL All-Pro teams Friday and a lot of the attention was focused on the first-team choice at quarterback. Aaron Rodgers ended up taking home the honors, while Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen tied for second-team.
Those three right there are the favorites for the NFL MVP award, with Derrick Henry also in the mix. But now that Rodgers got the nod at the quarterback spot, he stands as the clear favorite to be named MVP for the 2020 season.
Rodgers was already the frontrunner
Rodgers absolutely dominated in 2020. He threw 48 touchdowns, while Mahomes finished with 38. And even though the Kansas City signal-caller only threw six interceptions, Rodgers still bested him by only tossing five. The Green Bay legend also led all quarterbacks in quarterback rating and completion percentage.
All-Pro is usually the best gauge of how players are viewed by award voters. The best of the best are honored and while snubs do happen, Rodgers was the clear choice given his body of work. Him finishing seventh in passing yards is not as important when realizing he threw so many touchdowns.
He also led the Packers to the top seed in the NFC and gets to enjoy a bye this weekend.
Rodgers winning the MVP would be a perfect finish to a season that began with his replacement being drafted. Jordan Love was taken by the Packers in the first round and the conversation began of how much longer the veteran would last. Naturally, he had an All-Pro season and is on pace to win MVP after leading the team to a No. 1 seed.
There are always surprises, but it would be an absolute shock if Rodgers doesn’t win MVP. Mahomes and Allen had great years, but still have plenty of years to keep battling it out atop the league. For now, a legend of the game is still fighting to keep his job and become a champion once again.
