The transition from Carson Wenz to Jalen Hurts will mean big changes for the Eagles in 2021. Here are five bold predictions for Philadelphia.
The Eagles franchise has fallen from Super Bowl champions to mediocre mess in startling fashion. That’s why both Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson no longer call Philadelphia home. The combination of new head coach Nick Sirianni and new starting quarterback Jalen Hurts is intended to usher in a return of glory for the Eagles.
It’s safe to assume it’s going to take more than one offseason to fix the mess that GM Howie Roseman and his staff have created. The team is intentionally taking their salary cap medicine this year. The mountain of dead cap the Eagles are being forced to eat due to the Wentz trade and other high-profile mistakes make it impossible to construct a high-quality roster for the 2021 campaign.
Instead, this season is all about finding out whether or not Hurts is the answer under center. The jury is still out on the mobile young signal-caller. Read on for five bold predictions about Philadelphia’s 2021 campaign with Hurts at the helm.
5. Eagles will release Joe Flacco
Ostensibly, the Eagles signed Flacco in free agency because they wanted him to serve as some sort of safety blanket behind Hurts. The chances of Flacco being completely cooked are much higher than him providing any support to Hurts or the Eagles in 2021.
As a result, look for the team to cut bait on the former Super Bowl champion at some point during the regular season. They’ll want to bring in a player with more upside to occupy that roster spot. The Flacco signing didn’t make sense when it happened and eventually, the Eagles’ front office will quietly admit their mistake by cutting him loose.
