The Raiders need to strengthen their roster to make the playoffs in 2021. Moving on from these three players will help Las Vegas do just that.
Jon Gruden piloted the Raiders to a hot start to their 2020 campaign, but a late-season swoon cost Las Vegas the chance to make the playoffs. Don’t look for the team’s front office to react kindly to the team’s poor finish. Instead, GM Mike Mayock and his staff will work hard to shake up the roster before the 2021 season kicks off.
Every NFL team experienced some measure of roster turnover during the offseason, but Las Vegas should be busier than most. The Raiders need to get younger if they want to better position the franchise for long-term success. That means several veterans should be concerned about their place on next season’s roster.
The following three players won’t return to Sin City in 2021. They may find homes elsewhere in the league, but Gruden and his coaching staff will sanction their exits this offseason.
3. Nelson Agholor
Agholor has given the Raiders solid production this season with 47 catches for 839 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s still going to be the odd man out when it comes to the team’s 2021 receiving corps.
Henry Ruggs has flashed star potential as a rookie and is clearly a favorite of the coaching staff. Tyrell Williams figures to start on the other side after missing all of 2020 due to injury. Throw in Hunter Renfroe as a quality option in the slot and it’s easy to see why Las Vegas doesn’t have room for Agholor.
Instead, look for the Raiders to give third-round pick Brian Edwards every chance to take over as the team’s No. 4 wide receiver at Agholor’s expense. The former Eagles’ wideout will find a team willing to hand him a starting spot in 2021, but his time in Las Vegas has come to an end.
