The Seattle Seahawks still have their Super Bowl window open but need to hit a home run in the NFL Draft and these players could knock it out of the park.
The Seattle Seahawks might be the one team that few fans genuinely know what they are. On one side, they look to have an MVP quarterback in Russell Wilson and amazing receivers. The next day, he struggles late, nearly costing the team a playoff spot while running for his life..The Seahawks defense stepped up immensely from Week 10 on with the return of Jamal Adams. The All-Pro safety paired with trade acquisition Carlos Dunlap to help Seattle rebound defensively and produce one of the league’s top units.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough in the postseason and Seattle will have to start fresh come April’s draft.
This season, the Seahawks are with their backs against the wall. They’ll be without a first-round pick since they used it on Adams, but also that might be a blessing. Seattle struggles using their first overall pick, yet finds gems in the mid-rounds.
3 targets for the Seahawks in the 2021 NFL Draft
The biggest struggle for the Seahawks has been developing their offensive line. Since Wilson’s rookie season, Seattle has allowed their franchise quarterback to be sacked an average of 45.1 times a year, twice leading the NFL in sacks allowed.
Seattle found a quality option this past offseason in LSU linemen Damien Lewis. The former SEC star played multiple roles in Pete Carroll’s system but was best suited at guard for the running game. Seattle improved each week on the ground, eventually finishing just outside the top 10 in rushing.
Seattle should continue to pound the ball by adding another SEC lineman in Deonte Brown.
Brown’s stout figure has played an essential role in Najee Harris‘ career. The Crimson Tide running back broke Derrick Henry‘s single-season rushing record in two fewer games thanks to protection in trenches. Brown also does a good job working in combo blocks to open gaps.
If Seattle wants to run the ball more and take the pressure off Wilson throwing, this is the guy they need. Brown’s a grinder in the trenches and is great for any team looking for run-heavy schemes. Throw in his pass protection skills and you have a building block up the middle.
