While the Atlanta Braves are focused on potentially winning the NL East this season, it’s never too early to look at things for next campaign.
Some difficult decisions are going to be coming down the road for the Atlanta Braves. With so much young talent on the team and monster contracts needed to get done, what will Atlanta end up doing with first baseman Freddie Freeman?
The star infielder and slugger will be looking for a big deal once he enters free agency next offseason. Atlanta would be wise to spend money elsewhere. So, which players could they target? Here’s three guys of intrigue.
How about replacing one stud first baseman with another? That’s exactly what the Braves could be doing here if they were to go out and sign Anthony Rizzo, as he’d be a little bit less expensive of an option than Freeman.
Rizzo, a fan favorite in Chicago, will be a free agent after this season and could potentially make the tough decision of having to leave Wrigley Field. As good as he is in the field, Rizzo is just as impressive with the lumber in his hands at the dish.
He’d most definitely be quite the option for the Braves front office. Replacing Freeman and his offensive/defensive production would surely be a difficult task. With that being said, imagine Rizzo stepping into the lineup and belting dingers with Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acuña Jr. That’d be some must-see baseball right there. Next winter, keep you eyes on Rizzo potentially joining the Braves. You never know what might happen.
