The Tennessee Titans need to hit free agency hard this offseason, and here are a few names to start with.
The Tennessee Titans might have a former linebacker in Mike Vrabel as their head coach, but is was the offense who once again carried them into the postseason. A 2,000-yard season from Derrick Henry and another stunningly efficient performance from Ryan Tannehill at quarterback helped the Titans take home the AFC South.
Still, in a division that promises to be extra competitive next season, the Titans have some serious holes they need to patch up, and these three free agents could help them do just that, if they have the money.
Look for these three free agents to potentially end up on the Titans
The Titans’ secondary has fallen off a cliff in recent years, as even some established players like Kevin Byard and Kenny Vaccaro looked lost. While some of that can be assigned to the fact that Vrabel designed the defense himself rather than hire a defensive coordinator, the lack of talent in the secondary is clear.
While the New York Jets have been a football wasteland over the last few seasons, the secondary was one of the team’s more impressive units, and Poole, who came over from the Atlanta Falcons, has continued to prove he is one of the best slot cornerbacks in the game.
Kristian Fulton looks like a solid corner who can contribute for the next few seasons, but he still has a way to go before he is star material. The Titans drafted Adoree Jackson with the expectation that he would become a cornerstone for the next decade, but he appears to be nothing more than an average cornerback. Poole would be an instant upgrade over both.
The Tannehill-Henry combination should give the Titans a fighting chance, with or without Arthur Smith calling the plays.
Fixing the defense needs to be priority No. 1 this offseason, and what better way to do that than by getting a player in Poole that can play sticky man coverage? While the injuries should give the Titans some pause for thought, that shouldn’t prevent them from offering him a deal, as he and Desmond King would be a hellacious tandem.
