Three fighters Bellator should bring back in 2021.
Bellator recently made big cuts to their roster, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But there were a few names on that list we think they got wrong. With 2021 bringing a whole new year of fights here’s three names we’d like to see back in the Bellator cage sometime this year.
This cut was a bit of a head-scratcher for me. Ahead of his release from the promotion, the 47-year-old was undefeated for Bellator and riding a four-fight win streak. Of his two Bellator bouts, both came via first-round submissions. Perhaps Bellator was worried about his age, it couldn’t have been easy to find opponents for him, or perhaps Bellator just needed to lighten the load and Gozali was swept into the mix. Either way, he deserves to be resigned. He’s already fought once since getting cut, and won, so it’s clear he’s not just a fluke. His storyline is great as well as his son, Aviv, is also fighting for Bellator (and taking names). Gozali recently signed to fight at Bare Knuckle so if he wins there, Bellator should snap him back up and market a father-son doubleheader.
Hear me out here, Joe Schilling isn’t the greatest MMA fighter and that’s clear. But he is a great kickboxer and Bellator should keep him on the roster and re-start their Bellator kickboxing program with Schilling at the helm. Schilling was even scheduled to fight just weeks before getting cut, so they saw his value.
Let’s bring Schilling back and give him a bit more time, he’s a crowd favorite and if marketed correctly, could bring in some new fans.
AJ Agazarm is polarizing. You either hate him or you love him, there’s really no in-between. He’s new to MMA but has won more than he’s lost and that’s not a bad stat to have to start your career. Unfortunately, he lost his last bout (the winner, Cris Lencioni, was also cut). Something tells me that Agazarm was cut more for his paycheck than for his performance. If they could renegotiate with Agazarm he’d be worth bringing back. His fights always draw attention and that’s what Bellator needs, even if it’s an angry mob.
There’s plenty of time for these fighters to earn a win in a promotion like LFA or Titan FC to prove their worth for a second try.
